WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
Made with love
Many years ago in humble surroundings in a small village in Bangladesh, a young boy would eagerly watch his grandmother cook dinner for the family every day.
That young boy was my father.
Abul Alam, affectionately called Al by those around him.
This was just part of a journey that has spanned several generations and continents. He learned, he grew, and he passed down his knowledge and family traditions to his own daughter. As a young girl I would wait patiently for the days that my father would make his special curry powder. It was a real labour of love.
My earliest memories were of being in the kitchen with my father. Mesmerised by the colours and aromas, I would watch my dad take over our beloved family table. Blending the spices together one by one, using newspapers to shake and mix them to create the most wonderful blend of aromas, that as an adult now fills me with wonderful nostalgic memories of a beautiful childhood.
For me that is where my happiness laid, the heart and soul of my fathers cooking, his curry powder. Every meal would be made with love and every dish served came with the four words that became his trademark…
